It’s been nearly four years since Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell released their debut album. This follow-up turns down the acerbic tone of that first record and adds – for the most part – a more expansive dimension to their sound. ‘Je Me Perds’, is the one exception, but generally, the pair have done away with brash belligerence. Instead, there’s the catchy hooks of the title track, the fuzzy guitar of ‘Cold’ and the gentle disaffection within both ‘Silence And The Drones’ and ‘Night Light’. ‘7 Years’ ends the record with a soft(ish), tentative touch, confirmation that Blood Red Shoes are dead. Long live Blood Red Shoes.
