Having started out as a mediocre, darling to the media indie band, Bloc Party are fast becoming one of the more interesting acts around with each record they release.
Their brand new single Mercury starts off with Kele Okereke shouting astrological nonsense, before a tough stuttering breakbeat comes in. Soon there are heavy horns and cinematic flourishes mixing in with ass-rumbling bass lines like grime gone wide-screen, before building manically with a scrabbling Flight Of The Bumblebee horn and a quickening breakbeat. Not the kind of record you’d usually find on radio playlists and all the better for it.
