Although review discs were unavailable at the time of writing, we can’t ignore the fact that The Final Cut of Ridley Scott’s superlative Blade Runner will be the most exciting DVD release as 2007 draws to a close.
Released to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the film’s original opening, The Final Cut will receive a limited theatrical run before being released as a Two-Disc Special Edition and a gloriously packaged Five-Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition.
The five-disc format is clearly where it’s at. Aside from being encased in a tin box that also includes a letter from Scott and a selection of art prints, this format features a borderline ludicrous five versions of the film including the radically different and barely seen workprint edit. The package is completed by a vast array of extras highlighted by the brand new feature-length documentary Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner.
