The age of instant internet access and attention is especially interesting with regard to Florida five-piece Black Kids.
Their The Wizards of Ahhhs EP became a MySpace hit before a backlash hit when a US music website claimed the online hype machine was forcing bands like Black Kids into the spotlight before they were ready. The eventual release of their debut single doesn’t help solve the debate. Describing the song as The Go! Team with Robert Smith on vocals may make it sound very exciting but it’s actually fairly uninspiring. However there’s no need to write Black Kids off yet.
