Following a tumultuous journey to the completion of this record, Big Deal are back with grunge guitars and grit. It’s been a long three years since the duo’s debut, but after hearing the way opener ‘Hold Your Fire’ tears through with beautifully wild guitars and delightfully reckless percussion you can forgive Alice Costelloe and Kacey Underwood for taking all the time they needed.
Costelloe’s howling-esque vocal echoes throughout the record, and really shines on the striking title track. Things take a more wistful, melancholic turn with ‘Saccharine’, while ‘Veronica’ showcases a wavy, shoegaze sound. This carefully constructed and cohesive record really is a big deal.
8/10
