The second single from his Modern Guilt album sees Beck take a decidedly more upbeat tone to previous single, the dark and trippy Chemtrails.
Gamma Rays blazes into being with a skulking riff backed by some souped-up cymbals. But what with Beck being a slacker and all it’s not exactly high-octane rock’n’roll here. His familiar laid back vocals keep things on the level, while the ethereal effects provided by producer Danger Mouse, add some mystery. If Quentin Tarantino ever decided to make a sci-fi film, this would be a perfect addition to the inevitable future surf rock soundtrack.
