Antony’s beautifully strange journey
Antony And The Johnsons - Swanlights

Antony Hegarty’s voice is instantly recognisable. Even if his gentle giant tone isn’t for you, you know you’re in for a record drenched in emotion. ‘Swanlights’ is less straightforward than his other records and more operatic. It’s still astonishingly beautiful.

The title track is amazing: dark, scary even, and gives everything around it a perspective. Cleverly done. But the more concept songs, like the repetitive ‘Thank You For Your Love’, the first single, and ‘Everything Is New’, distract a little from the album’s overall feel. Another intriguing piece in Antony’s beautifully strange journey.
