Alice Russell is the thinking person’s Duffy. She might not have the profile of the Welsh beauty, but she’s got the soulful voice and the talent.
Shelved after Pinnacle Distribution collapsed, this album thankfully hasn’t dated over the last twelve months and sounds fresher than newly cut grass. She even manages to pull off a cover of Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy’ and inject some life into it.
There’s also a bonus CD with remixes by the likes of DJ Vadim and Mr Scruff, which goes to show how she is respected by her funk peers. No wonder David Byrne has got her on his next record!
