AFI – The Blood Album

A mature offering from the California punks...

Three and a half years have passed since the California punks released their last album ‘Burial’, and for long-term fans of AFI, new material is long overdue.

Fortunately, it’s pretty much business as usual on ‘The Blood Album’. Announced following a literal blackout on their social media, it’s clear AFI have toned down their image, but they haven’t ditched the darkness completely; tracks such as ‘Aurelia’ and ‘Feed From The Floor’ harbour familiar macabre theatrics, though this time they feel more matured and far less overwrought than in previous offerings.

7/10
