A Bugged Out Mix by Klaxons

Sees the Mercury winners line up the records

Bugged Out’s latest venture sees the recent Mercury Kings line up the records which soundtracked their lives and inadvertently shaped the likes of ‘Magik’ and ‘Golden Skans’. Disk 1 of the set sits effortlessly alongside the best dance compilations we’ve heard.

Want New Rave? Go check out Luke Vibert’s ‘Breakbeat Metal Music’ or ‘The L Bit’s immense ear-thudding tech assault on ‘Tasty’, it illustrates that when most were donning Converse and pretending it was 1979, these guys were guzzling glowsticks before Topshop got their hands on ironic rave chic. Disk two is less one sided still. Pairing Zager&Evans’ legendary ‘In The Year 2525’ with the even more legendary ‘Shame On A Nigga’, lifted from Wu Tang’s bolt-blue classic ’36 Chambers’. If anything, the lack of hip-hop is a notable surprise from the Dre-loving trio, though we imagine it was a tense selection. There’s also a few lesser known inclusions, from Fad Gadget’s avant disco stormer ‘King Of The Flies’ to Krautrockers Cluster appearing amid Blur (Think Tank’s hidden manual rewind track ‘Me,White Noise features) and Roy Orbison.
