Manics star slates new music

Manic Street Preachers bass player Nicky Wire has slated modern music, including newcomers The Drums.

Manic Street Preachers are one of the bitchiest groups in modern rock. The band's verbal sparring partners reads like a who's who's of rock music, with the Welsh group delighting in wind ups.

However in between the scurrilous rumours and outlandish statements lurks a grain of truth. Speaking to the NME, bass player Nicky Wire slated modern music urging bands to become individuals.

"There's no shortage of good music being made in the world, but where are the intelligent, outspoken, chaotic and self-destructive rock'n'roll stars?" he asked.

Continuing, Nicky Wire took exception to The Drums being lauded as a talented new act. "When I seen bands like The Drums being fawned over, it makes me feel ill," the Manics star continued.

"There is literally no soul in that band. They've taken nothing from the depth or poetry or amazing lyrics of Ian Curtis, they've just taken his kooky dance. The whole generation is attired in American Apparel, there's no individualism any more."

Of course, when Manic Street Preachers first burst onto the scene they were famous for wearing skin tight white jeans and dressing in their mother's blouses - no signs of American Apparel there!

The band are gearing up for the release of their new album. Manic Street Preachers have returned to their bombastic best, with new single 'It's Not War (Just The End Of Love)' boasting sweeping strings and epic vocals.
