The Bronx and more for Calgary bash

The Deal sisters are set to join the cast of this summer's Sled Island Music And Arts Festival with The Breeders due to play the Calgary bash.

The Breeders returned recently with a new EP. The band centre on the Deal sisters, who have recorded an unusual cover of Bob Marley for the new release. Coming close on the heels of their last album, the new EP has taken fans by surprise with Kelley Deal also working on a new book 'Bags That Rock'.

The band are set to join the Canadian event, which features a huge bill of over 200 acts. Kim Deal in for a busy summer with the bass player also due to play the Isle Of Wight festival with legendary American alt rock act Pixies.

Sled Island festival has a number of star names on its bill. The Bronx are the wildmen of Californian rock, and recently played the Shred Yr Face 2 tour alongside Fucked Up and spazz-core merchants Rolo Tomassi.

Joining them will be Canadian synth punks Holy Fuck, who over the course of two albums have marked themselves out as truly unique talents. The band use a vast array of vintage synths to produce their sound, with their spectacular live show regarded as one of the finest in electronic music.

Sled Island has allowed legendary punk figure Colin Newman of the group Wire to curate the bill for this year's event. Amongst the other groups confirmed for the bill are New York artrocker types Liars, and fun time rocker Andrew WK.

Canadian maverick Final Fantasy has also been confirmed, alongside Ladyhawke and The Dudes, with more exciting announcements expected from the organisers.

Sled Island Music And Arts Festival is set to take place in venues throughout Calgary between June 24th - 27th.
