Zutons Singer On Assault Charge

Dave McCabe appears in court

The Zutons singer Dave McCabe has appeared in court after being accused of head-butting a man outside a club.

The Zutons have not had their troubles to seek of late. The band were recently dropped from their label Deltasonic, and have been struggling to find an outlet for their new completed batch of material.

Now the band’s singer Dave McCabe has appeared in court after being accused of head-butting a man during a row. The incident allegedly took place in February outside of the Korova nightclub in Liverpool.

Leaving the club with his girlfriend, McCabe passed a group of men. One man apparently made a comment over the woman’s fur coat, claiming that the collar made it look as if she had a beard.

BBC News reports that a row then broke out, during which Dave McCabe is alleged to have head-butted the man. Breaking his nose in the process, Peter Appleby reported the singer to the police.

Ben Harris opened the case for the prosecution, emphasising that The Zutons singer approached the wrong man. “He never made the remark but he was laughing because he thought it was funny. McCabe came over and headbutted Appleby, causing him a broken nose.”

Meanwhile Appleby claimed that the comment was a private joke, and accused the woman of “over-reacting”. McCabe then allegedly became aggressive, with Appleby suggesting that “he seemed to be directing it at me and then he lunged towards me and headbutted me”.

Speaking to the jury, Peter Appleby denied that he had done anything to provoke the attack which occurred at the end of a night out.

The case is ongoing.

However it’s not all bad news for Dave McCabe. The Zutons singer became part of Mark Ronson’s Business Intl project, and co-wrote the forthcoming single ‘The Bike Song’ which is due to be released next Monday (September 27th).
