Reclusive dubstep producer Zomby has confirmed details of his new mini-album ‘One Foot Ahead Of The Other’.
With dubstep now enshrined in the public’s consciousness as the home of the ‘wobble’ a new breed of producers are taking risks with the bass heavy genre. Go back and listen to those early cuts again – emerging from the dark garage scene, dubstep was never just about one elements.
From ‘Midnight Request Line’ to ‘Night’ and beyond the seminal early cuts of dubstep took risks and still managed to rock the dancehall. London based producer Zomby is among the new breed who stay true to the sheer adventure of the primal dubstep era.
Early cuts such as ‘Strange Fruit’ blurred the distinctions between dubstep and chiptune without any need for the crazed brutality of Nintendub. With a throbbing beat Zomby’s archaic synth sounds threatened to eat up your speakers as the song melted out of the stereo.
Other releases such as ‘Liquid Dancehall’ and ‘Spliff Dub’ have marked Zomby out as one of the finest electronic producers in Britain. However a string of cancelled dates have left some promoters irate, and has only increased the mystery around the producer.
Forthcoming mini-album ‘One Foot Ahead Of The Other’ could blow the dubstep guru’s cover. Melting together elements of electronica, dancehall and more with the dubstep template Zomby has arrived at a wholly unique sound.
Signed to Ramp, the mini-album carries on from previous works with Werk Discs and seminal label Hyperdub. Debut album ‘Where Were You In 92?’ looked back to the jungle era, and won great acclaim – yet the producer still remains in the shadows, despite his productions being used in Prada’s recent catwalk show in Milan.
Rapidly becoming one of the most talked about figures in the dance world, it can’t be long before Zomby is forced to lurch forth out of the dark.
Zomby is due to release ‘One Foot Ahead Of The Other’ on September 7th.
