New statement issued on eve of KOKO show...
Yussef Kamaal

Yussef Kamaal have issued a new statement revealing they will now perform separately.

The South London jazz entity released debut album 'Black Focus' last year, one of 2016's most fluid, creative, inspired statements.

Since then, their flower has blossomed - indeed, Yussef Kamaal will perform at London's KOKO venue tonight (May 4th).

A new high water mark for the current energy within UK jazz, the show has been overshadowed by a new statement from the group.

"Unfortunately we have to let you know that for private and unforeseen reasons the original line up of Yussef Kamaal will no longer perform together. To ensure that the fans still have the opportunity to experience the music of Yussef Kamaal, there will be alternative line-ups performing."

It seems that the core elements of Yussef Kamaal - Henry Wu and Yussef Dayes - will lead their own lines up, featuring:

Henry Wu presents Black Focus Live
MckNastyMusic (Josh McKenzie)
Tom Driessler
Nick Walters

Yussef Dayes presents Black Focus ft.
Charlie Stacey
Mansur Brown

In fairness, both are excellent line ups and will no doubt explore 'Black Focus' in fresh, exciting ways, but these are still worrying times for fans - particularly as many are travelling to see Yussef Kamaal (in whatever iteration they will provide) at their biggest show to date in only a few hours...

Time will tell.
