Are you the emperor? Doncaster’s finest Yungblud is back with a glint in his eye and a thirst for havoc. Fresh single ‘The Emperor’ is an adrenaline junkie call-to-arms, mixing that typical Yungblud energy with a sprinkling of drum and bass mayhem. The track also serves as the official anthem for 2022’s ESPN College Football Season – and it’s safe to say that it’s guaranteed to rile up the crowds.
‘The Emperor’s infectious flow is impossible to resist, steady drums and whirring synths luring you in. It’s a track where you can already envision Yungblud’s onstage antics – bouncing around with intent, bent knees rocketing right up beneath his chin as he howls along. As the track descends into chaos, crowds are guaranteed to follow suit; this is a track designed to have fans sweating, descending into a mass whirl of movement.
Speaking on the track’s inclusion in the ESPN College Football Season, Dom Harrison comments: “It’s a massive honour… I wrote this song when I was seventeen, it was just an outburst of unfiltered energy that I knew would have its moment one day. I played it live for years but never found the right time to release it until now. College football is such a massive part of American culture and all I ever want to do is bring energy to people, so I can’t wait for the song to bring that energy to the fans and the players at the games all season.”
The track serves as the fifth taste of Yungblud’s upcoming September 2nd release. The self-titled album will also feature the indie-rock anthem ‘The Funeral’, introspective ‘Memories’, riling scream-along ‘Fleabag’ and the charging optimism of ‘Don’t Feel Like Feeling Sad Today’ . With so many different textures at play, it seems like ‘Yungblud’ is shaping up to be a sprawling, diverse release – exactly what we’d expect from the Doncaster don.
Tune in now.
