Yungblud and Lil Yachty are working on… something.
The UK alt hero has been quiet of late, with his most recent album – 2022’s self-titled effort – still burning brighting on streaming platforms. Closing 2022 by working alongside the one and only Avril Lavigne, the following 12 months brought some one-off releases, and a collaboration with Oli Sykes of bring me the horizon.
Taking time over his next step, a new photo has leaked featuring Yungblud and Lil Yachty deep in creative conversation.
Is a new partnership brewing? Lil Yachty has worked with alt artists before, while his hypnotic studio album ‘Let’s Start Here’ caused waves last year. On its release, Clash writer Robin Murray said:
It’s far from perfect. For every clipped, Silk Sonic esque moment – step forward ‘drive ME crazy!’ – there are moments of meandering musicality, and uncertain songcraft. That said, there’s plenty in here to soak up – from its title out, ‘Let’s Start Here’ seems to point to a fresh beginning for Lil Yachty.
For his part, Yungblud has never been afraid to attempting something new. Clash spoke to the songwriter back in 2019 about his commitment to the craft, and he emphasised the societal meaning of his work:
If you asked a young person five years ago if they cared about politics, they’d say they didn’t give a fuck. We don’t have that luxury any more. The world’s telling us ‘sit down and shut up’, look at Greta Thunburg – fucking love that girl. I’m out here, night after night, in the trenches. There’s an army of us ready to rise up and fight for an equal, liberal world. We’re here to make noise and make a change, not to be polite about it.
So, could it reach fruition…? And when will Yungblud share the results? Stay tuned for more updates as they happen.
