You Say Party Return To The Studio

New material on the way

You Say Party have returned to the studio to begin working on a new batch of material.

You Say Party! We Say Die were left shell shocked earlier this year. Playing a show in the United States drummer Devon Clifford suddenly slumped over his kit, and despite emergency treatment could not be revived.

Retreating from the glare of the media, the Canadian group worked out their next steps. Consulting Clifford’s family, the band shorted their name with You Say Party releasing a new album earlier this year.

Completing a European tour cancelled in the aftermath of their drummer’s death, You Say Party are still recovering from the tragic incident. Taking time off, the band are set to begin work on new material.

Recording at the Noise Floor studio in Ladysmith, British Columbia the band are demoing a few new track. Speaking to Exclaim bass player Stephen O’Shea revealed that “we’re currently demoing six songs that we’ve written in the last three months”.

“At this point, we haven’t talked releases. The plan is to write another six and see where we’re at.”

Continuing, You Say Party bass player Stephen O’Shea argued that working on new material has rejuvenated the band. “With a rock garden in the back, (the) main street just up the hill and the beach a ten-minute walk away,” he explained.

“It’s been extremely restoring through the very difficult time of returning to the studio for the first time.”

However fans expecting a new album could be in for a shock. O’Shea explained that You Say Party could bypass the idea of a complete LP. “There hasn’t been much talk about full-lengths but instead of seven-inches and possibly an EP,” he said.

“With the band on tour in Europe during October, November and December, I wouldn’t expect these to be released until sometime in 2011.”
