Liverpool group YOBS have shared new single ‘Fortune Teller’.
The band have been formed from the ashes of two cult Liverpool bands – Weird Sex (Roadkill Records) and Ohmns – and make their debut with an all-new two-tracker. Freshly signed to Fuzz Club Records, YOBS blend pile-driving sludge to brown acid fuelled psychedelia, resulting in an unholy amalgamation.
Out now, debut single ‘Fortune Teller’ – complete with B-Side ‘Cemetery Man’ – is a real statement, the sound of a band shooting from the hip. Self-billed as “the fire starter you’ve been waiting for” ‘Fortune Teller’ is all skull-crushing riffs and hallucinogenic effects.
Reminiscent of Pigsx7 in places, it carries the swagger of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, but injects some Scouse misdemeanours. Working to their own rules, it’s a fine – intense – mode of introduction.
YOBS comments…
‘Fortune Teller’ is the firestarter you’ve been waiting for. Be prepared for a roller-coaster of high-energy riffs and pounding drums. As with most of our songs, ‘Fortune Teller’ came from a bit of a warm up before practice. Usually the songs come together in between practicing the set and so they always feel quite natural to us. We know we’re onto something when Joey puts the pieces together with his wild man vocals (Yobs 5th instrument).
Tune in now.
Catch YOBS at London’s Night Owl on November 24th, and Liverpool’s Round The Corner on November 25th.
