There are team ups, and then there are team ups.
Sonny And Cher, Simon And Garfunkel hell even Florence and her Machine – prepare to be blown out of the water. Two of America’s most celebrated acts have been working together with Yeah Yeah Yeahs being remixed by none other than Animal Collective.
Animal Collective are seemingly incapable of taking a wrong turn at the moment. The band released their new album ‘Merriweather Post Pavillion’ earlier this year to ecstatic reviews. Hailed as a milestone in American rock, it is the band’s most assured work to date, building on the outstanding promise shown by their earlier material.
The group have been invited to rework the new single by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. ‘Zero’ is a blistering slice of raunchy rock, which finds the band experimenting with synths and expanding their familiar sound. A risky endeavour, which Animal Collective have remixed for a new, limited edition, single.
Packaged with forthcoming album ‘It’s Blitz’ the single is available through InSound. Initial reviews of ‘It’s Blitz’ have been promising. The album is the band’s first since ‘Show Your Bones’ in 2006 and finds the group keen to experiment, but without losing touch with what made them so special in the first place.
The album was one of the last completed by Dave Sitek at his studio in Brooklyn. Due to escalating rents the TV On The Radio mainman decided to close the building, ending the career of one of America’s most celebrated studios.
