New York artist Yaya Bey has shared dual single, ‘the evidence’ and ‘crying through my teeth’, via Big Dada.
Teasing a forthcoming project in the new year, both songs are harmonically lush scores to a turbulent period for the singer, one marked by transitions, grief and financial strife. On ‘the evidence’ and the organ-infused ‘crying through my teeth’, Bey’s lyrics diarise her emotional dissonance without ever devolving into self-loathing.
These songs continue the restorative premise of last year’s debut album ‘Remember Your North Star’ and follow-up EP ‘exodus the north star’, artfully, and tenderly, projecting a vision of hope rooted in the communal welfare of black women.
Tune in now.
