Yakul Head For The Cosmos On ‘Start Here’

"There’s a feeling of hope and possibility..."

Brighton outfit Yakul have shared voyage-drifting new single, ‘Start Here’.

The quartet chart a new sonic terrain with their first release of the year, following 2023 EP ‘Outlines’. A jazz meets psych-soul offering, Yakul evoke Flying Lotus’ cosmic ambiance with a vocal that recalls neo soul progenitor Maxwell.

Of the release, vocalist and keys player James Berkeley says: “We travelled to the middle of nowhere to write new music and this was the very first song we came up with… I played the chords on a Moog Matriarch and the rest of it came together in about 30 mins. Since then, it really felt like the start of this new era. There’s a feeling of hope and possibility in this track. It starts the journey of discovery & finding the importance of each moment as time passes by.”

Hotly tipped by the likes of Red Bull and tastemakers like Jamz Supernova, the band have amassed millions of streams worldwide while also garnering hard-earned support on the live circuit at Glastonbury and Love Supreme, and tours throughout the UK and Europe including multiple sold-out performances at legendary London venues at Jazz Cafe and Ronnie Scott’s. They’ll hit up the latter for a show on April 16th.
