xskarma And glasscat Merge Forces on Latest Single ‘Hello’

A bold return from the Bristol songwriter, producer and drummer...

Charles Grimsdale, otherwise known as xskarma, has shared his latest single ‘Hello’.

Since landing onto the scene, the songwriter, producer and drummer has been refining his own blend of indie-pop, trip-hop and funk. ‘Hello’ reaches into the underworld of xskarma’s sound, a track that embraces its subdued grandeur from start to finish. Inviting the crystalline vocals of glasscat, the two combine to tackle the uncertainty of romance and relationships across hypnotic drum patterns and swaying guitar strums.

Hailing from Bristol, xskarma has established himself as a multidisciplinary force within the city. Alongside Peter Gabriel, the tech entrepreneur co-founded one of Europe’s first streaming services titled O2D. Since then, the artist has drawn his focus towards conservation and climate change, charging his music with intent to do better. Last year’s single ‘Changing’ is an excellent case in point, with xskarma donating all of its streaming revenue to planting trees in Uganda to restore its forests.

Well immersed in the sonic palette of Portishead, Massive Attack and Tame Impala, xskarma crosses the boundaries of genre with no hesitation.

‘Hello’ is marking the artist’s return, a smokey, momentous track that leaves fans wanting more.

The artist explains: “The track is about the unspoken darkness in a relationship and how sometimes a partner can seem distant and distracted, living in a parallel universe. The inspiration came from a glitchy Timbaland track. I then played the live drum beat as an evolution of that and built the rest from there.”
