Indie risers Wynona have shared their new single 'My Mind Is Melting (Cool Like You)'.
It's an appropriate title for the ongoing heatwave, with the biting songcraft sat alongside raw production that dips into their live prowess.
A band who technically formed in Osaka, Japan before the pandemic forced their return to the UK, Wynona hinges on the central songwriting partnership between real-life couple Natalie and Rich.
'My Mind Is Melting (Cool Like You)' dips into the 90s alt-rock playbook, adding flourishes of those early Garbage singles to their own unique style.
“'My Mind Is Melting (Cool Like You)' started life as a little Casio keyboard riff idea using auto chords,” Natalie explains. “I shared a story on Instagram of me messing around with the chords and singing a melody over the top & our producer, Lachlan West messaged us immediately saying ‘PLEASE demo this’ – inspired by the energy building around this short idea, we formed an entire song the following day.”
“Lyrically we didn’t overthink it, but we found ourselves writing with a little more disdain and sarcasm than anything else we had written or released before. It’s about feeling like you don’t fully fit in, but at the same time you don’t want to. Essentially, ‘show me how to be cool like you (think you are)’.”
A punchy pop song disguised as a three minute alt-rock burner, 'My Mind Is Melting (Cool Like You)' is another marker on Wynona's journey.
