Wooden Shjips are preparing a new 12 inch of remixes and a short European tour.
Wooden Shjips make a certain type of song: tripped out drones, the San Francisco collective are known for their majestic diversions into inner space.
Which is why news of a remix EP is so damn exciting. Three producers have been let loose with material from last year’s ‘West’ long player, resulting in three very distinct interpretations.
Andrew Weather tackles ‘Crossing’ while Spacemen 3 / Spectrum mainstay Pete Kember (aka Sonic Boom) provides ‘Wiking Stew (aka Red Krayola-ing)’ – a mash up based on those initial album sessions.
The upcoming EP is capped by a collaboration between Riply and Kandado, who re-work ‘Ursus Maritimus (Last Bear’s Lament)’. Out on February 20th, the upcoming 12 inch will receive a limited edition pressing featuring crystal clear wax with black streaks (for a light smokey effect) as well as classic black finish.
Tracklisting:
01 Crossing Remix [Andrew Weatherall]
02 Wiking Stew (aka Red Krayola-ing) [Sonic Boom]
03 Ursus Maritimus (Last Bear’s Lament) [kandodo w/Ripley]
Meanwhile, Wooden Shjips have confirmed plans for a brief European tour to coincide with the EP. Opening in Bristol, the British leg contains just three shows and finishes in Manchester on July 12th.
