Australian old school rockers Wolfmother have given fans a free download preview of their new album.
Wolfmother emerged with a batch of songs which suggested that the dial on the amplifiers didn’t just go up to eleven, they went straight back to 1971. Taking on board influences such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and even Kiss the group unashamedly retro sound made them a guilty pleasure with rock fans.
Best known for semi-hit ‘Joker And The Thief’ the band’s self-titled debut album was released in 2006, but since then Wolfmother have been dogged down by personnel difficulties.
Last summer the band were rocked after bassist Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett quit. Singer Andrew Stockdale vowed to continue rocking, however, and has been working on the group’s new album in Los Angeles.
Recruiting two new members, the band are now set to head back out on the road. The as yet un-named second album was recorded with Alan Moulder, who has previously worked with Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails.
One of the premiere rock producers, Moulder will no doubt bring a rigid structure to the group’s material which could well see Stockdale have the last laugh on his departed bandmates.
Wolfmother’s new track ‘Back Round’ is available to download now from the band’s official website.
