Maverick American songwriter Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy has decided to release his new album on a bottle stopper.
Real name Will Oldham, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy is just the latest in a series of pseudonyms the singer has used. Perfecting a dark and intense style of alt country, Oldham’s songwriting pushes American music into dangerous new places.
Returning later this year with his new album ‘The Wonder Show Of The World’ Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy has decided to release it on a very unusual format.
Joined by The Cairo Gang, the new album is driven by an almost concert like sense of intimacy. ‘The Wonder Show Of The World’ is the latest collaboration between the two acts, and at times seems to find the pair eyeball to eyeball.
A project undertaken by people who simply want to make music, the result is an album which stands amongst the finest Oldham has undertaken. Following on from previous collaborations such as ‘Lie Down In The Light’ the forthcoming album contains some typically challenging songwriting.
To celebrate the release, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy is set to make the available on bottle stopper format. Each stopper was individually hand carved by the artist Scott Millar, making them quite different from each other.
A revered artist in his own right, the new bottle stopper features Millar crafting a unique portrait of Will Oldham. Funny yet bizarre, it is certain to become an almost instant collectable amongst fans.
Anyone who orders the stopper will receive a code to download the tracks from the album on March 29th, the date of the physical release.
