Wilco Name New Album

And its name is...

Celebrated American alt country group Wilco have named their forthcoming studio album ‘Wilco (The Album)’.

Jeff Tweedy began life playing rock ‘n’ roll in high school with his friends. Forming Uncle Tupelo as a covers groups, they swiftly began writing their own material blending the country music they had grown up surrounded by with alternative rock.

A revolution was born. Their debut album ‘No Depression’ may not have flung itself off the shelves, but the record formed the cornerstone of the alt country movement – even having a magazine named after it.

Uncle Tupelo stuttered to a halt in 1994, with Jeff Tweedy going on to form Wilco. The new group has been a continuation of the songwriter’s experiments with country music, blending the sounds and ethics of Hank Williams with a variety of musical forms.

Wilco’s new album is their first since ‘Sky Blue Sky’ in 2007. The group have been working on the album for some time, with Wilco benefiting from a settled period within their line up – the group are famed for hiring firing musicians.

The new album also contains a track titled ‘Wilco, The Song’ which drummer Glenn Kotche insisted to Rolling Stone was “a great, upbeat song professing our love for our fans.” The forthcoming album is Wilco’s seventh to date, and includes a reported eleven tracks.

Amongst the guest stars on the album are Canadian singer Feist, who adds her sultry vocals to the Tweedy duet ‘You And I’. The new album isn’t the only release fans can expect, with Wilco currently putting the finishing touches to a new tour DVD.

Wilco are set to play some of their new material in a headline performance at the Green Man event. A rare British festival appearance from the group, Wilco are joined by an all star bill including Jarvis Cocker, Super Furry Animals and Animal Collective.

Wilco are set to release their new album ‘Wilco (The Album)’ in June.
