Wilco are to return with their eighth studio album ‘The Whole Love’ later this year.
One of the most respected groups of their generation, Wilco have consistently tread their own path. Led by Jeff Tweedy, the band’s output isn’t so much alt country as beyond country – accepting countless new influences in the process.
Last releasing an album in 2009, the band have now completed a follow up to ‘Wilco (The Album)’. Set to be released on the newly launched dBpm imprint, new album ‘The Whole Love’ is due to drop this summer.
Featuring twelve brand new songs, ‘The Whole Love’ was recorded earlier this year in Wilco’s Chicago recording studio The Loft. Jeff Tweedy took charge of production, working with assistance from Patrick Sansone and Tom Schick.
Once again expanding the Wilco template, the new album apparently utilises Mellotron, strings, loops and more. The songwriting is becoming more and more expansive, with opening track ‘Art Of Almost’ clocking in at seven minutes.
Finishing with eleven minute epic ‘One Sunday Morning (Song For Jane Smiley’s Boyfriend)’ the new album also contains ten provocative, forward thinking tracks. Lead single ‘I Might’ was released earlier this week, and is available to stream HERE.
‘The Whole Love’ will be released in September, and to coincide with the release Wilco have prepared a North American tour. Nick Lowe is due to support, before the band head out to Europe.
Announcing a series of British tour dates, Wilco are set to open the jaunt in Glasgow on October 24th. Continuing, the band will play shows in Manchester and Bristol before a two night stand in London.
Taking control of the Roundhouse, Wilco will unveil music from ‘The Whole Love’ alongside cuts from their influential back catalogue.
