Esteemed independent label Wichita are set to turn ten years old with a series of special gigs, parties and releases.
What connects (deep breath) Bloc Party, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bright Eyes, The Cribs, Simian Mobile Disco, My Morning Jacket, Les Savy Fav, The Bronx, Peter, Bjorn & John and countless other?
Wichita Records, of course. The label has released far more than its fair share of good music, moving from genre to genre with impeccable taste. This year alone the imprint will release material by Mariachi El Bronx and Peter, Bjorn And John with a host of new surprises on the horizon.
Never one to let an excuse for a party slide by, Wichita have unveiled plans for a series of special occasions. First up: ‘Record Store Day’ and a slew of limited edition releases from some of the label top acts including Bright Eyes, The Cribs, Simian Mobile Disco, Bloc Party, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more.
However if you can’t snap up one of those limited edition titbits Wichita is planning a series of showcase events. Taking over The Great Escape, the label will showcase some of its recent signings including Peggy Sue.
Next the imprint heads to Stag & Dagger in London, featuring performances from Frankie & The Heartstrings, Sky Larkin and more.
Finally the label will pack their bags and head to Spain’s Primavera for a show featuring Los Campesinos!, Peggy Sue and others. With a week long event in London planned for July, expect a host more releases, parties and plenty of sore heads.
Happy Birthday Wichita!
