White Stripes For Loretta Lynn Album

New tribute album organised

The White Stripes are set to appear on a forthcoming tribute album to country music icon Loretta Lynn.

One of the foremost female voices in country music, Loretta Lynn’s story of emerging from the backwoods to become a star is written in the fabric of the American dream. Still a wonderful performer, the country singer is set to have an unusual tribute album.

Usually, country music is insular with tribute albums tending to include artists from Nashville and the surrounding environs. For Loretta Lynn, however, something much more inclusive was required.

Named in honour of his biopic, ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ features appearances from rock stars, rappers and pop singers. Amongst the more intriguing offerings is a rendition of ‘Rated X’ by The White Stripes.

Previously a staple of the band’s live set, The White Stripes have donated a version of ‘Rated X’ recorded in 2002. The two acts have a close relationship, after Jack White produced and co-wrote Loretta Lynn’s 2004 album ‘Van Lear Rose’.

An artistic triumph, Jack White added some blistering guitar to work behind the singer’s trademark country vocals. Doffing his cap to the singer, Jack White joins a growing cast of contemporaries on the album.

Gretchen Wilson opens ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ while Paramore and Kid Rock are among the most unusual acts paying tribute to the singer. Due for release on November 7th in the United States, the album also features appearances from country legends Steve Earle and Allison Moorer.

The tribute finishes with an all star rendition of ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ which features Miranda Lambert, Sheryl Crow and Loretta Lynn herself.
