White Stripes Archives To Open To Fans

Jack White hails new subscription service

Detroit guitar picker Jack White has promised to open up The White Stripes archive to fans, as he prepares to launch a new subscription service.

The White Stripes may be one of America’s biggest groups, but the duo began life as a truly independent phenomenon. Centred on Jack White and his ‘sister’ Meg the pair’s unholy blues-derived racket made them one of the most talked about bands in alt-rock.

Releasing a raft of singles and appearing on tons of compilations the group have plenty of history behind them. Add in some gloriously designed flyers and tour posters, and Jack White is left with a cupboard bulging with memorabilia.

The White Stripes guitarist recently launched a brand new subscription service, which offers exclusive video and music content of the bands he is in. As well as this, Jack White has even promised to send physical releases to those who sign up.

In addition to his work with The White Stripes, of course, the guitarist is a member of The Raconteurs and recently launched The Dead Weather.

Premium membership of Jack White’s new subscription service costs £12 (or $20) per month.

Speaking to the BBC the guitarist said “they (subscribers) will get vaulted footage from the past that no one has seen or ever posted on YouTube before.

“The White Stripes alone have incredible amounts of footage and recordings of shows from the last decade.”

The guitarist continued, claiming that he may pay a personal visit to subscribers in order to deliver specially made vinyl – as a stand against downloading.

“Some members are getting into shows before anyone else now just by lottery,” he said. “Some might get rare records randomly sent to them via mail order (or handed to them by me even!). Some are getting records that they will resell on eBay if they want to.”

The White Stripes have not released an album since 2007, but are due to head back into the studio later this year. The seminal two-piece are due to release a new documentary later this year showcasing their ‘Great Northern Lights’ Canadian tour.
