Meek Mill has side-stepped major streaming services for new album ‘Flamerz 5’.

The project revives his much-loved ‘Flamerz’ series, in which the artist raps over the beats of other artists. Essentially an illicit, pirate take on battle rap, the series was initially released on slim-lined, semi-legal compact discs.

When the download era began, DatPiff became the source of choice – hi-jacking other artist’s beats isn’t exactly something streaming giants encourage.

Returning to the idea, new album ‘Flamerz 5’ is a straight down the line rap record, with Meek Mill pilfering beats from GloRilla and Cardi B’s ‘Tomorrow 2’, Quavo and Takeoff’s ‘Big Stunna’, and more.

There’s also aspects of Lil Wayne’s ‘Cannon’ utilises for the intro, while he nabs Burna Boy’s afrobeats anthem ‘Last Last’, too.

Out now, confused fans who bought into the social media hype have one complaint: if it’s already been released, why isn’t it on Spotify or Apple Music?

Well, try SoundCloud. Meek Mill has side-stepped the standard release schedule, rolling the clock back to those mixtape drops of ’15 and ’16.
