Weezer Respond To Split Campaign

Make it $20 million, they say

Weezer have spoken out after a recent internet campaign was launched to get them to split.

Weezer are one of the best loved band’s in American rock music. The group returned recently with their album ‘Hurley’ which was yet another comfortable blend of alt rock and sweet melodies.

The album’s only crime? Not being ‘Pinkerton’. The record which perhaps best defines Weezer, to their loyal fans everything the band do will be judged against the artistic highs of their 1995 opus.

Now an online campaign has been launched to get the band to split. ‘Enough is enough’ some fans are saying, with James Burns kickstarting a campaign to force Weezer to call it a day.

Not quite a loyal fan, James Burns has admitted to never liking the band. Yet even here the spectre of former glories looms large, with Burns vowing to put fans out of their misery by preventing another lacklustre release.

Attempting to raise $10 million to secure the band’s demise, James Burns has currently made just $21. A long way to go, the group themselves have decided to speak out with regards to the campaign.

Speaking to fans on Twitter, drummer Patrick Wilson told Burns to raise his price. “If they can make it 20 (million)” he said “we’ll do the ‘deluxe breakup'”.

Not entirely sure what the deluxe break up could be. A spiralling drug habit, conflicting interviews and a sundry round of solo material?

Perhaps. Though knowing Weezer, the split would involve a subtle shifts in relationships before an inevitably peaceful parting of ways.
