Weezer Injuries Update

Rivers Cuomo has punctured lung

American geek rock icons Weezer are still recovering from their recent bus crash, with singer Rivers Cuomo suffering a punctured lung.

Weezer are one of the best loved groups of their generation. The band returned this year with their new album ‘Raditude’ which delighted fans with its self-deprecating alt rock charm.

Taking to the road, the band were half way through completing an exhausting North American tour when a serious accident occurred. Early on Sunday morning (December 6th) the group’s tour bus hit a patch of ice and slid off the highway.

Weezer were left shocked, with singer Rivers Cuomo taken to hospital. Emergency services were quickly on the scene, using mechanical jaws to rip apart the tour bus in an effort to reach the trapped singer.

As a result the ‘Raditude’ tour has been cancelled, with Weezer reeling from the accident. A new posting on the band’s MySpace page has revealed the extent of frontman Rivers Cuomo’s injuries.

“Rivers’ internal injuries included both a small cut on his spleen and a small puncture in his lung.”

“An internal cut needs to be carefully monitored to see if it is healing up or not. The lung puncture was small so the lung did not fully collapse, and thus no surgery was needed for that, but it also has to be monitored carefully.”

“He (Rivers Cuomo) went from being barely able to talk and open his eyes yesterday to partially sitting up, talking clearly, reading books and checking the internet,” the band explained. “Plus his color and energy seemed much brighter.”

All upcoming Weezer tour dates have been cancelled.
