American psych-pop outfit Wavves are set to return later this year with their new album.
It’s been a funny old year for Wavves. Last year the band’s performance at Benicassim turned into chaos when singer Nathan Williams appeared, liberally dosed in MDMA.
Strumming listlessly, the frontman offered the audience a few profanities before departing the stage. Booking himself into rehab, Nathan Williams earned the wrath of Black Lips frontman Jared Swilley.
The two baited each other in interviews, before meeting one fateful night in a Brooklyn bar. Swilley came off the worse, with Nathan Williams and his Wavves crew beating the Black Lips star into a pulp.
Now Wavves have returned to the studio, with the results due for release soon. Posting a message on the band’s blog Nathan Williams told fans that the band have completed work on their new album.
“SO STEPHEN, BILLY AND I WILL BE PLAYING OUR THIRD SHOW IN THE US TOGETHER TMRRW NIGHT AT THE HIGH TONE IN MEMPHIS. WE ARE ALL VERY EXCITED SINCE THEY LET US SMOKE WEED IN THEIR KITCHEN. WE ALSO FINISHED RECORDING A RECORD IN OXFORD MISSISSIPPI AND ARE CURRENTLY MIXING IT. SOUNDS CARAAAZAAAAAAYYY AND WILL BE OUT THIS SUMMER. SEEEEEE YA!”
Nathan Williams is currently working with Jay Reatard’s former rhythm section, who of course walked out on the maverick garage punk during what would be his final tour. Beefing up the Wavves sound, the band have confirmed a host of tour dates but alas! they are only in the United States.
Wavves are set to release their new album this summer.
