Los Angeles based psych-punks Wavves have been forced to cancel more shows, with singer Nathan Williams still recovering from breaking his wrist.
Wavves are part of a new generation of American groups for whom Cubase is simply a tool of the devil. Led by Nathan Williams the band craft nuggets of lo-fi indie rock that mix sunkissed melody with plenty of tape hiss.
The band’s debut album ‘Wavvves’ was released earlier this year, and became a favourite with critics. A series of European dates scheduled for this summer were designed to break Wavves across the continent, but the plans were to end in disaster.
After consuming vast amounts of drugs and alcohol Nathan Williams emerged onstage clearly in no shape to play. Strumming random chords and slurring into the microphone, Williams began berating the crowd.
Eventually forced to leave the stage after some twenty minutes, the singer’s meltdown became big news. Writing a blog apologising for his actions Nathan Williams promptly cancelled the entire European tour, before axing a number of subsequent American dates.
Since then, the singer has rested. A potential comeback date was organised but tragedy struck again with the now clean Nathan Williams breaking his wrist. The singer was involved in a skateboard accident, and requires surgery.
Continued medical treatment means that Williams will be forced to cancel yet more shows. In a blog posting the Wavves singer claims:
“I’m not going to be able to play the Smell show on the 23rd b/c I have surgery to get some screws in my wrist on the 22nd. I’m bummed, I was really looking fwd to this show! Ironic I miss the skatepark benefit because I broke my wrist skateboarding.”
However by way of recompense Williams has uploaded a new track. “Anyways, I will be back soon but until then you can jam on this. This was a demo that I never ended up coming back to and probably wont end up doing anything with but jam on it n-e-wayz.”
Titled ‘Mickey Mouse’ you can download the track HERE!
A fan of blog postings, Wavves’ singer Nathan Williams hasn’t let a broken wrist stop him completing Resident Evil 5. Blasting zombies obviously a lot less strenuous than strumming a guitar…
