Zola Jesus has unveiled the strikingly beautiful video for her new track ‘Vessel’.
Listening to Zola Jesus, you can’t help but be struck by her sweeping, grandiose atmospherics. On her new album ‘Conatus’ everything seems huge, vast as if looking out over endless empty plains.
Perhaps appropriately, the new Zola Jesus video is shot in a desert. Stripped from the acclaimed new album, ‘Vessels’ has been given an evocative promo by director Jacqueline Castel.
Inspired by the life of the Sphinx moth, the film is a beautiful accompaniment to one of the stand out tracks on ‘Contatus’. Director Jacqueline Castel explains:
“In Vessel, science fiction, wave phenomena, and the abstracted metamorphosis of the moth life cycle are visually manifested in the surreal landscapes of underground mineral caves and icy, remote dunes. Themes of duality and transformation weave throughout, with Nika’s own voice revealed as vibrational patterns in water through the microscopic observation of Cymatics.”
