Clash caught London based experimentalists Blue Bendy in action recently, supporting squid at the Troxy. Given the stature of the headline act, the band had a lot of live up to, but impressed everyone in the room with their devout creativity.
Embracing chance and relishing improvisation, Blue Bendy sit at the crossover between jazz-like flexibility and intricate, detailed compositional sense.
Debut album ‘So Medieval’ will be released on April 12th via state51, and ahead of this the band recorded a live session at the label’s London headquarters.
Laid down at the state51 factory, Blue Bendy are on riveting form, a display of control and release that epitomises their free-wheeling creativity.

We recorded this on a cold December afternoon freshly jaded from the tour with Squid, Harrison refused to play without a head full of red. Choice of tracks was easy, the first two singles and the atmospheric closer of the album – the one we’ve been opening the live show with. Was lots of fun to play at the State 51 Factory, a place very quickly feeling like our second home…
