Watch: Ryan Adams – Lucky Now

New video emerges...

Ryan Adams has premiered the video for ‘Lucky Now’ the first single to be taken from ‘Ashes & Fire’.

His first album in some time, ‘Ashes & Fire’ is a remarkable return from Ryan Adams. The unpredictable American musician has led fans on a merry dance, but the new material evokes his pastoral, acoustic side.

A vein of melancholy runs through the material, with new single ‘Lucky Now’ no exception. Speaking to ClashMusic earlier this year, Ryan Adams explained that it was inspired by the death of a close friend.

“I feel the songs were still dealing with the ghosts of some failure of New York,” he said. “It had been two or three years since I had written, I had moved to the West Coast, and so New York is kind of like ever-present on this record. As my geographical and spiritual home it’s present, and it appears as the past on the record.”

“There’s a song like ‘Do I Wait’, where I feel like the ghosts of past relationships are there. A song like ‘Lucky Now’ is really dealing with Chris (Feinstein, bassist for The Cardinals) passing away and mortality and my place in that, in the world; my questions about it, you know?”

Prised apart from the album, ‘Lucky Now’ stands as a dramatic, evocative piece of songwriting. Given a new video by longtime Adams collaborator and director Philip Andelman, you can watch the film below…
