One of the most frequent observations made after the publication of 'Autobiography' is how close Morrissey's writing style was to his lyrics.
Perhaps that was only apt, given the often deeply literary flourishes Morrissey has long been placing in his phrasing.
New single 'Istanbul' is out now on iTunes, with the singer shooting a new video to accompany it. In keeping with previous clips, the lyrics are recited by a voice over in a spoken word fashion.
Morrissey is shown seated next to a crackly record player, with a bouquet placed on top. Pouring himself a drink, it begins…
"Rolling breathless off the tongue
the vicious street gang slang
I lean into a box of pine
identify the kid as mine."
