Sri Lankan born world-pop star M.I.A. has debuted the video to ‘Born Free’ the first track taken from her new album.
Born in Sri Lanka, raised in Britain. A visual artist who turned to music almost as a dare. M.I.A. is a fascinating yet deeply contradictory artist, almost effortlessly bringing together hugely varied elements in her music.
Scoring a massive hit single in the States with her Clash-sampling epic ‘Paper Planes’ the singer the took time off to focus on her family. Returning to the studio last year, M.I.A. has now completed work on her third album.
As yet un-titled, the singer has kept details of the new album under wraps. An apparent leak was later revealed to be false, with M.I.A. keeping a close guard of new material.
Set to be released on June 28th, the new album will be preceded by the single ‘Born Free’. M.I.A. has filmed a dramatic new video for the track which you can see HERE.
Speaking to fans on Twitter the singer introduced the video by saying: “if ur gonna leak my song u might as well do it right here you go , a post card from waziristan”.
The track itself is a typically raucous return from the singer, blending a catchy chorus with stunning production courtesy of her Diplo-headed team. Meanwhile, label XL Recordings have released a moving Gif image of M.I.A. – that’s it on the right!
M.I.A. is set to return to the UK this summer for a series of festival appearances. Set to perform at London’s one day Underage event alongside a headline slot at The Big Chill the singer is set to tour at the end of the summer.
M.I.A. is set to release her new album on June 28th.
