Jarvis Cocker has spoken about his lyrical work after signing a new book deal.
In a sea of Oasis wannabees, Jarvis Cocker strode across the Britpop landscape like a finger-wagging colossus. Pulp’s lyrics pushed the band to another level, capable of uniting retro-culture with a dissection of British identity.
Arch, witty and thought provoking Jarvis Cocker has a knack for spotting humour in the most mundane of details. Now fans will be given the opportunity to pour over his lyrical work en masse after the singer signed a new book deal.
‘Mother, Brother, Lover: Selected Lyrics’ will be released in October after Jarvis Cocker signed a deal with Faber & Faber (via The Quietus).
Of course, the singer’s work is back in the limelight after the news of Pulp’s recent re-union. Set to play Wireless in London, the influential band are also set to play T In The Park, Oxegen and more.
Bringing his lyrics together in a new collection, Jarvis Cocker sat down for a lengthy chat with Faber & Faber publishing director Lee Brackstone. In the interview, the singer divulges his first attempts at lyric writing, a song named ‘Shakespeare Rock’: “got a a baby / only one thing’s wrong / Quote Shakespeare all day long / I said baby why are you ignoring me / She said to be or not to be.”
There’s hope for us all… watch the video below:
