Swedish duo I Break Horses are streaming a live rendition of their track ‘Winter Beats’.
Formed in Stockholm, I Break Horses are steeped in the sonic watermarks of shoegaze and dream pop. However the duo avoid being derivative, with their songwriting pushing them in a very unique direction.
Maria Lindén’s voice has a real warm, yet the vocals are shrouded in an ice cold atmosphere. Debut album ‘Hearts’ was released earlier this week, with production aided by Maria Lindén’s musical partner Fredrik Balck.
A genuinely bewitching release, ‘Hearts’ never allows the vast soundscapes to over-power the songwriting. Not quite managing to tour the UK as yet, I Break Horses have smuggled out an enticing live take.
Shot by film maker Alex Southam, the beautiful clip shows I Break Horses performing ‘Winter Beats’. The opening track of their new album, you can watch the performance below before reading what Maria Lindén had to tell ClashMusic about the song…

“I wrote this track out of frustration in Poland. I was there to record the album in a studio and that whole experience wasn’t exactly what I had hoped for. It seemed like a great idea at the time though! And I suppose that even though I pretty much scrapped everythiing I recorded there, once I came home, some good did come out of it, and that was this song.”
“I found a really nice Russian syntheziser there and started playing the arpeggio chord that the song is built on, tested the engineer’s patience by asking him to record me while holding that one chord for about 6 minutes haha. I ended up liking it so much I made it the album opener.”
I Break Horses’ debut album ‘Hearts’ is out now.
