The opening episode of The Simpsons' latest series contains a musical treat – psychedelic voyagers Spacemen 3.
Homer Simpson undergoes a temporary split from Marge, starting a new relationship with a character voiced by Lena Dunham.
The pair mix alcohol with prescription drugs, and embark on a vivid psychedelic trip. The whole experience is soundtracked by Spacemen 3's 'Big City (Everybody I Know Can Be Found Here)'.
Showrunner Al Jean told The Wall Street Journal: "Everything they take is a prescription drug but not used in the way it’s supposed to. (The song) seemed really appropriate."
Spacemen 3 member Sonic Boom added: "When I saw the script I was psyched. I couldn’t imagine a sweeter use of that track in this context, and particularly in context of a 'trip' scene. (That is) something that’s usually for me a high point of ‘The Simpsons’ oeuvre. I imagine it is what people in bands secretly, or openly, dream of. Animation is so useful for these sort of stretches of reality."
