Newly found footage has gone online featuring Frank Ocean singing at his high school graduation.
Let’s be honest: new Frank Ocean footage doesn’t come around very often. It’s been a long time – six years, in fact – since ‘Blonde’ and ‘Endless’ landed, and the wait for new material goes on.
In the meantime, Frank Ocean has released his Boys Don’t Cry magazine, and the single ‘In My Room’ – alongside a version of ‘Moon River’.
Starved of something fresh, fans have been raiding through the archives, looking to find something special. YouTube user Daymond Burditt struck gold, sharing footage of Frank Ocean singing at his high school graduation.
The intimate clip was shot back in 2005, and features Frank Ocean leading his class in the John Ehret High School Alma Mater.
Then called Christopher Breaux, the clip comes six years before ‘Nostalgia, Ultra’ and while it’s raw, the voice is certainly recognisable, leading his classmates in New Orleans. Just a few months later, Frank Ocean would join the University of New Orleans to study English – he encountered Odd Future in 2009, and the rest, well, that’s modern music history.
The new video is a unique chance to watch a pre-Odd Future performer. Here’s a clipped version from social media.
