Break up albums are ten-a-penny. Almost every songwriter worth their salt has gone through a rocky spell, and responded with lovelorn lyrics that tread over the same well-worn path.
‘Idealistic Animals’ though, was somewhat different. Cheri MacNeil documented her loss of faith, an idealism that had underpinned so much of her life. An exacting, draining experience the album was nonetheless a cathartic, positive event in the singer’s life.
‘Mole’ is a typical example of Dear Reader’s songwriting. A tender waltz, the lyrics slowly pick apart the vagaries of faith.
