Maverick Baltimore based producer Dan Deacon is gearing up for a new tour by giving a typically bizarre new interview.
Shielding himself away from the critical eyes of the world, Dan Deacon began making bizarre slices of electronic music in his spare time. Gradually gathering an audience for his unhinged pieces of pop, Dan Deacon finally gained wider acceptance with 2007’s album ‘Spiderman Of The Rings’.
Awarded with critical praise, Dan Deacon followed the record with his new album ‘Bromst’. Typically off the wall, Deacon’s new found status has seen his past dragged up by some familiar faces.
American comedienne Sarah Silverman recently posted a link to the video for Dan Deacon’s 2005 track ‘Drinking Out Of Cups’. Becoming an internet sensation the YouTube video for the track has now claimed over 3 million hits.
However Deacon was concerned at allegations he wrote the track while using hallucinogenic drugs. Publishing a statement, the producer said:
“while i have no problem with psychedelics and think that they are important to human culture, i do want it to be known that i was not on any psychedelics or any drugs while making this piece. it was all stream of conscience, reacting to watching the tv, changing the channels, with the sound of, talking to it as if it were a person communicating back to me”.
So that’s that. In a new interview with the American website Noisevox the producer reveals all about life on the road. To replicate the lush sound of ‘Bromst’ Dan Deacon has employed twenty musicians, who have been packed in a van and forced to travel across the United States.
“I felt like it was time to do a new show” he revealed. “I felt like I had been doing the same season of “Seinfeld” again and again, so I thought it would be nice to add some new characters, and a new setting, but I didn’t want it to lose the feel of the old show.”
Discussing a wide range of topics, Dan Deacon also looks forwards to the upcoming joint tour with No Age and Deerhunter.
Noisevox is an ongoing series of interviews that sees maverick musicians interviewed in their natural habitat. Previous interviewees include the likes of Animal Collective, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and many more.
