Coldplay brought out Alan Partridge as a special guest at Saturday night’s Wembley Stadium show.
The band are in the middle of a six night run at the fabled venue, with strikes initially forcing them to improvise and alter the dates. Everything seemed to be running smoothly in a musical sense, however, with Coldplay hitting up some guests for the shows.
Steve Coogan – in the guise of comedy creation Alan Partridge – arrived onstage last night (August 20th), chatting amiably with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
The band then played a cover of ABBA’s ‘Knowing Me Knowing You’, which of course was the theme tune to Alan’s ill-fated 90s chat show. Alan Partridge even joined in, and stayed onstage while Coldplay segued into a special cover.
Tackling – what else? – ‘Running Up That Hill’ by Kate Bush, Alan Partridge offered some comedy quips; “Running up hills, roads, it’s all cardiovascular…”
Fair point well made, Alan.
Side note: Alan Patridge wore a colourful satin jacket during his spot onstage, embalmed with the words ‘Snow Patrol’. Which is kind of a genius move in itself!
Coldplay were also joined by director and actor Simon Pegg, who played tambourine on ‘Sky Full Of Stars’.
