Legendary electronic imprint Warp Records is set to celebrate an important milestone with a new box set titled ‘Warp20’.
Founded in Sheffield, Warp Records has risen to become on the most respected and influential record labels on the planet. The label began in 1989, fuelled by the explosive energy of the Acid House scene.
Fired up by the innovative music coming out of Detroit and Chicago, the label’s founders Steve Beckett and Rob Mitchell began releasing some home grown productions. Finding success almost straight away, the label scored a number of Top 20 hits before the year was out.
Yet it is not for chart success that Warp is known. Despite scoring a number of massive hits over the past two decades the label has become a by-word in sonic innovation.
Amongst the artists who have released strikingly original material through Warp Records are the likes of Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Jamie Lidell, Nightmares On Wax, Boards Of Canada and countless more.
In 2000 the label moved to London, with founder Rob Mitchell dying of cancer over a year later. Continuing, Warp retained its ethos while expanding into the world of guitars. In recent times !!!, Maximo Park and more have released celebrated albums through the imprint.
Warp will celebrate its new birthday through the release of a lavish new boxset ‘Warp20’. Known for its love of beautiful packaging, the label has spared no expense for the new release.
The new box set is now available to pre-order from Bleep, and includes:
Warp20 (1989-2009) The Complete Catalogue – a catalogue of the cover art from every Warp release to date.
Warp20 (Chosen) – A double album, with one half being chosen by the fans and the other being curated by co-founder Steve Beckett.
